A subdirectory is a directory below another directory. Every directory except the root directory is a subdirectory. In Windows 95 and Windows/NT, subdirectories are called folders.
if you are conversation about Linux within all directories are within child and parent forms and each chil is a paren's subdirectory and the foremost parrent is called teh root .
it's newly the same contained by windows but they are call folders .each folder you be paid inside another is a subfolder or you may call it sub directory . and the address respectively folder has is call directory . for example " MYDOCUMENTS/MY PICTURES" is a subdirectory of "MY DOCUMENTS"
