what is a dual core processor ?

what is a dual core processor ?

A dual-core device contains two independent microprocessors. In standard, multi-core microprocessors allow a computing device to exhibit some form of thread-level parallelism (TLP) without including multiple microprocessors within separate physical packages. This form of TLP is often agreed as chip-level multiprocessing.

It is NOT two distinct processors - NOT a true dual processor machine. Windows will show it as a dual processor surrounded by the task organizer though.

Also, processing capacity is almost double a single core device. This is a vast revival over what Intel has call "hyperthreading".
simply put it has 2 processors on it. mechanism it handles multiple applications better
A dual-core processor is a processor that have two cores. It is capable of doing lots of things at once. (multitasking)

With like mad of RAM (at least 512MB), you could be running a virus scan and burning a DVD/CD beside no slowdowns.

Generally a processor has one core, or one brain. A dual core processor have 2 brains. Meaning it can do twice as much in impossible to tell apart amount of time, as long as the program it is running was made for a dual core processor.
since the examine is already answered...dont forget about Quad-core....4 cores beneath one lid :)
