what is a power supply??

I want a primary summary of what a power supply is (in a computer). I want to know what is does and how it works.

what is a power supply??

Basically, all it does is receive the power from the wall outlet and transform it to a form usable by the devices located inside the computer. It has to distribute it evenly and beside enough power to power as plentiful devices as you have plugged into it.

Read and delight in!!
In short, it's a power converter, that converts 110 volts of household AC [alternating current] to around 12 volts of DC [direct current] like that of a battery-operated. Most electronic devices need direct current to operate, so most every gizmo within the universe will either run stale of a battery or will hold in place a power supply to convert AC to the DC that it wants to function.

Inside of a power supply, you will find a myriad of diodes that convert the AC to DC, and capacitors to store the energy, but I suggest supervision if you open one up, as the big round entity [the capacitor] can give you a devout spanking if you touch it, even if it has be unplugged for a short time. A capacitor is a storage nouns for voltage, sort of like the hose down tank losing a toilet, except it's storing voltage for release when suddenly needed. Touching it can give you moderately a harmful shock, even fatal depending on the microfarads of the capacitor.
it supplies power to the parts and to the computer without this power supply the computer cannot turn on
