What is a sata controller card?

I simply asked a question more or less whether to use SATA or EIDE and somebody answered and said that SATA was NOTcompatible beside my computer (HP Media Center m370n) and that I needed to buy a SATA controller card. I looked it up and there are so heaps different kinds. Does it thing which one I get? Are adjectives of them compatible with my computer?

What is a sata controller card?

helo again :-)

an sata controller card is a circut board you buy and place into an spread out pci-socket in your computer. the card enable you to use sata hard drives by pluging them directly into the unusual card. personaly i like Promise brand but it doesnt concern much which kind you bring. i recoment an SATA-150 type since your compuer would not be able to cart advantage of the faster SATA-300 type speed anyway. adjectives you have to do is be paid sure the box says WindowsXP compatible on it and it should work a short time ago fine.

try newegg.com, the cheapest one they have is 13 bucks :-D
Most should be - It is vitally an inerface card to connect SATA Drives to it
Why, did you buy a SATA hard disk?

Your motherboard man old, accept only PATA knotty drive. Its ports (with 84 pins) are only for EIDE harddisks.

When SATA come out, it doesn't mean if you want SATA drives, you replace the MoBo. To step around this limitations, they made this SATA card inserted to the MoBo PCI slot, then you connect the SATA harddisk to your SATA card, and sour you go.
Any PCI slot sata card will work near your computer.

here is an example of one that will work with it.
